Radon

Radon

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas known to cause lung cancer. Radon-222 is the decay product of radium-226 and both originate from the decay chain of uranium-238. Most radon exposure occurs inside homes, schools and workplaces. Radon gas becomes trapped indoors after it enters or seeps into buildings through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Indoor radon can be controlled and managed with proven, cost-effective techniques.

The Authority has initiated a national study to determine the radon gas concentration in homes and offices nationally. The results and mapping produced will soon be available on the website. The initial data collected includes nine regions in the country.
