Conference Overview

The Atomic Energy Board (AEB) is a statutory advisory body established pursuant to the Atomic Energy and Radiation Protection Act, 2005 (Act No. 5 of 2005), with a mandate to, among other functions, advise the Government on nuclear matters and promote the peaceful applications of atomic energy. In this regard, the AEB seeks opportunities through which nuclear science and technology can contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s national development, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, energy, industry, water and environmental management.

The National Nuclear Science and Technology Conference (NNSTC) was established as a biennial national platform for engagement, knowledge exchange and collaboration among government, academia, industry and international partners. The first Conference was held in November 2022, followed by the second in October 2024. These engagements have strengthened stakeholder collaboration and contributed to the formulation of Namibia’s Nuclear Industry Strategy. The theme for the 2026 National Nuclear Science and Technology Conference is: “Harnessing Nuclear Science and Technology for Namibia’s Industrialisation and Prosperity.”

Objectives

• Advance implementation of Namibia’s Nuclear industry strategy.
• Showcase local and international innovations in nuclear science and technology.
• Strengthen regional and international partnerships in peaceful nuclear applications.
• Explore nuclear-based solutions to development challenges in health, agriculture, energy and related sectors.
• Provide a platform for researchers and professionals to present and discuss research findings.
• Promote skills development and participation by students and emerging professionals.
