1: Who do I contact for assistance in the Authority with regards to License applications?
The Sub-division Review and Assessment is responsible for processing License Applications. Their office is on the 3rd floor, office No. 3E10 and 3E13 Tel: 061 203 2416/14.
2: Who do I contact for assistance in the Authority with regards to Dosimetry Services?
The Sub-division Scientific Services offers Dosimetry Services and is located at basement floor, Office -1C02 Tel: 061 203 2420.
3: When should i apply for a new/ initial licence?
At least 90 days prior to intended start of operations.
4: When should I apply for a licence renewal?
At least 90 days before the expiry date of your current licence.
5: Who should be monitored for occupational radiation exposure?
Every person who incurs occupational exposure or works in the controlled area as per the Atomic Energy and Radiation Protection Act and Regulations.
6: Do I need an authorization to import or export any radiation generating device?
Yes, the Authority ensures that adequate control is exercised over the possession, production, processing, sale, export, and import of radiation sources and nuclear material.
7: Is any transporter fit to carry radiation sources??
Transportation of radioactive sources requires Authorization from the Authority.
8: When do I expect my facility to be inspected?
The Authority conducts pre-operational and routine inspections, such inspections are scheduled and communicated to the operator. However, some inspections are unannounced/ not communicated.
9: How does a Radiation Management Plan (RMP) differ from a Report on the Implementation of the RMP?
The plan describes what will be done to comply with regulatory requirements. Where as the report is a summary of actual steps implemented to comply with requirements.
10: Is a notification required to handle exempted radiation sources?
Yes it is.
11: What should be done in the event of change in Legal Person, RSO, equipment, or location of operations and facility?
A notification should be made to the Authority of the changes for further guidance on what supplementary information is required.
